A new Opera company in Pittsburgh, Thousand Bridges Opera, is celebrating Pride Month this weekend! Co-Founders Alicia Jayourba, Bridget Johnston, and singer Emily Gallagher, talk with Anna Singer about their upcoming double-feature weekend. The double-feature contains a PA premiere of "Meow and Forever", and "Daphnis et Chloe". "Meow and Friends" is a romantic comedy opera about a woman, her new crush, and her jealous cats. Alicia and Bridget talk about first meeting in 2018 during a production of "Brigadoon" and later reconnecting in Pittsburgh. They founded Thousand Bridges Opera to support local young artists with a mission to connect, educate, and celebrate through music. Emily talks about singing Chloe and Chester the cat in each performance. Bridget will play Daphnis, a pants role, that reflects Opera's long history of gender fluidity and drag. Alicia talks about making her directorial debut with Daphnis et Chloe. They all hope to bring humor, heart, and inclusivity to the Pride themed double-feature. It is a weekend to celebrate and uplift the LGBTQ+ community. "Meow and Forever" and "Daphnis et Chloe" are on June 7th and 8th at 7:30 pm at the Margaret Partee Performing Arts Center.
