South Hills Chorale Is Singing in the Neighborhood

Episode Summary

The South Hills Chorale's spring concert will be celebrating Pittsburgh's musical legacy! Executive Director of the Chorale, Rick Smith, and his wife, Debbie Smith, talk about the upcoming concert in May. Rick highlights the concerts program, which honors Pittsburgh musicians across genres. Some honorees include Errol Garner, Billy Porter, Henry Mancini, Nancy Galbraith, and Fred Rogers. The group hosts weekly rehearsals on Monday nights, and function as a close-knit family. Rick also emphasizes the chorale aspect of the singing, making sure not to have solos throughout the concert. Rick and Debbie talk about celebrating 25 years with the choir, and how they found each other and love through it. They have been married for 21 years now! The venue has easy parking, restaurants, and is close by the Bethel Bakery! Rick encourages audience members to bring non-perishable food as donations to benefit South Hills Interfaith Movement. Last spring, they donated over 8,000 items, and hope to have more this year. You can hear South Hills Chorale's "Singing in the Neighborhood: Celebrating Pittsburgh's Musical Legacy" on May 9th and 10th at Christ United Methodist Church.
