Prime Stage Theatre is back again to talk about their upcoming productions! Producing Artistic Director, Wayne Brinda, and Public Relations Director, Lawrence McCullough, discuss their new production of "I Never Saw Another Butterfly and The Terezin Promise". This production is part of their enGage program, which engages the world in education, understanding, and actions against the atrocities of genocide through theater. Wayne talks about the true story behind these two one-act plays, in which children at the Terezin concentration camp make art in secret during the Holocaust. These pieces of art were then smuggled out of the camp and eventually into Prague at the end of the war. Prime Stage offers these plays on the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the Liberation of Concentration Camps. Wayne highlights that on opening night, a daughter of a camp liberator, Patty Partington, will speak in an post-show discussion. In addition, Lawrence talks about his upcoming staged reading of a new play he wrote based on true events in Pittsburgh. "Freedom House: Giving Life a Second Chance!" will have a staged reading on Monday, May 5th. The play showcases the creation of Pittsburgh's Hill District of Freedom House Ambulance Service in 1967, becoming the first emergency medical unit in the United States. Lawrence talks about why he wrote this new play, and the research he did to create it, including watching a documentary WQED produced about the Freedom House Ambulance Service. You can see "I Never Saw Another Butterfly and the Terezin Promise" at the New Hazlett Theater from Friday, February 28th to March 9th.
