The music program at Third Presbyterian Church is featuring an upcoming concert as a part of their concert series! Singer Sydney Kaczorowski and pianist Fabio Gentili, talk about their upcoming recital featuring Slavic art songs. The program features work by Zoltan Kodaly, Bohuslav Martinu, and Feliks Nowowiejski. Sydney talks about her background as an Ethnomusicologist, and her Polish and Italian heritage. Her first exposure to Eastern European music began when she joined the Duquesne University Tamburitzans. Her husband, Fabio, talks about his home country of Italy. He began conducting in Bologna, and first met Sydney at a festival in Italy. He now teaches at at CMU's prep school. Both talk about the emotional depth, cultural identity, and musical elegance of the works. Many of the songs are grounded in Slavic folk traditions. Sydney also describes her extensive research in locating rare sheet music by Nowowiejski. They perform a piece by Feliks Nowowiejski in WQED-FM's studios.
