Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh's Strings Attached

Episode Summary

Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh has another concert coming up, with two wonderful guests and a unique instrument! Artistic Director Edward Leonard, harpist Jennifer Ruggieri, and percussionist Matthew Coley, spoke live with Jim Cunningham about this unique concert. Edward discusses the program, which includes a newly created Concerto for the Cimbalom by composer Jonathan Blair. It also includes Elgar's Elegy for Strings, and Dvorak's Serenade for Strings. Matthew describes what a Cimbalom is, and the many other instruments that he plays. Jennifer talks about her background as a harpist. She received her Master's degree at Chicago College of the Performing Arts under Chicago Symphony Principal Harpist, Sarah Bullen. They play the first movement of Zoltan Gyore's Hungarian Dances with Matthew on the cimbalom to give a taste of what the instrument will sound like.
