Voice of the Arts

Carpe Diem String Quartet at The Frick

Episode Summary

Members of the Carpe Diem String Quartet, Sam Weiser, Marisa Ishikawa, Korine Fujiwara, and Ariana Nelson, spoke about their upcoming concert at The Frick Pittsburgh on October 19th, at 7 pm at the Frick Auditorium. This special night highlights the fusion of Islamic Art and Music across the ages as The Frick's latest exhibition, Treasured Ornament: 10 Centuries of Islamic Art, ends on October 20th. The Quartet talks about their collaboration with local Iranian composer, Reza Vali, in a concert of Persian music about 10 years ago, and how that started a long collaboration with the composer that inspired their upcoming concert. They also talk about working with Santur player, Dariush Saghafi, in this concert. A pre-performance discussion will be led by WQED's own Jim Cunningham, and guests will be able to converse with the musicians after the concert.
