Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch - Cello Fury

Episode Summary

CitiPark's Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch's second concert is this weekend! After a great kick-off on June 22nd by the Pittsburgh Youth Concert Orchestra, June 29th's concert will feature Cello Fury. The three members of the group, Nicole Myers, Simon Cummings, and Cecilia Caughman, talk about the group and the concert, with our summer intern Joey Gamza. The group blends classical techniques with rock energy and new arrangements to create a cinematic and dynamic sound. Their set on Sunday includes original compositions, classical pieces from Sibelius, and rock covers. Simon talks about arranging the covers for only 3 cello players, and sometimes a drummer. Nicole talks about the groups start after training at Carnegie Mellon University. They are releasing a new album in the fall of 2025, which will feature many new songs. Cecilia emphasizes the groups collaboration with dancers at the Confluence Ballet Company for Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch. Lastly, they perform an arrangement of Sibelius's "Findlandia" in WQED-Fm's studios. You can hear Cello Fury on Sunday, June 29th from 10:30 am to 12 pm at Mellon Park. Don’t forget to say hi to WQED during the concert, and enter into our intermission drawing for fun prizes! We will have free CD’s, giveaways, and much more!
